The World Health Organization is currently working to find a cure for polio. Significant strides have been made though. In 1988 there was about 355,000 cases of the disease in 125 countries. In 2004, there were only about 1,255 cases left in the world. At the moment only 4 countries have polio circulating. There is still risk that the disease can spread to even more countries due to the virus being spread person to person. The best thing to do right now, is to continue vaccinating kids against polio until a cure is found.
