Polio is spread through person to person contact. It enters peoples bodies usually through the mouth and multiplies in the intestine. Then the disease spreads through the community, especially in places of poor sanitation. Polio can be spread when food or drinks are contaminated by faece to food. There is also evidence that flies can transfer poliovirus to faeces and then to food.
